Objective
Our aim is to produce bulls in the 6> 7 frame score range with the larger types suitable for breeding export bullocks and the earlier maturing types suited for producing heavy local trade cattle, dependant of course on the herds they go into. We like cattle with correct structure, heavy bone, heavy fleshing, a proper polled head and a very quiet temperament. The Duff Red Brangus motto is the same as Stephen’s Grandfathers, ‘Quality and Quietness’. We believe quiet cattle not only do better but are safer and more satisfying to work with. Our plan has been to establish a herd with 50% Brahman blood however we have found it easier to produce good cattle on the lower side of half. We now think, provided we pay attention to skin and hair type, cattle closer to 40% bos indicus content represent the future. |
