Operation
500 breeders run at “Tralee” near Proston on 5,000 acres of forest country and 1,000 acres of softwood scrub. They are seasonally mated with calves born during the Spring and early Summer. The herd currently consists of 300 Red Brangus Stud Cows and 200 Brahman cows that are mated to Red Angus bulls. Steers and cull heifers are sold as weaners with the bull calves and replacement heifers trucked to “Springvale” at Gympie. The heifers are mated, sometimes by AI, as rising two year olds before returning to Tralee where they run under commercial conditions. The weaner bull calves run on grass with occasional supplementation until the following Winter where they are prepared for sale (still in paddocks) on grain. |
